Enjoy carefully guided elephant rides and leisurely walks through the pristine forests of northern Thailand, staying at lodges which meet European standards at night. And the best bit? We'll carry your luggage for you the whole way. Delicious local and international food, hot showers, super comfortable beds with mosquito nets provided, and an awe-inspiring Thai jungle experience: what more could you want?
Day 1: Chiang Mai to Karen Hill Tribe Lodge (L/D)
Pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai hotel and head North for 250 kms to the Karen Hill Tribe Lodge. On route through beautiful mountain scenery you will visit local Thai market and see them selling their products. You visit Baan Chan temple enjoy lunch at a natural pine forest. Journey through the dense Baan Na Kled Hoi jungle for 1.5 hours, rocking with the sway of the huge mammal. Eventually Baan Huay Ya Tai and the Karen Hill Tribe lodge will emerge from through the trees: your home for tonight. Talk about making an entrance. and in the afternoon you'll meet the elephants by the river and help bahte them. Settle into your new surroundings and enjoy dinner accompanied by a traditional performance by local dancers, dancing under a star lit sky : the ideal end to your first day in the jungle.
Day 2: Travel by elephant to a secret waterfall (B/L/D)
After breakfast you'll venture into the jungle for you first elephant trek. Wade along the river to a secret waterfall where relaxing, swimming and a surprise picnic lunch await you. Cross a mountain on elephant back to the Karen Elephant camp, where you can watch hill tribe women weaving and pounding rice. Enjoy sundowners and a BBQ at the camp fire.
Day 3: A lesson in tribal living (B/L/D)
You'll have an early start this morning with a walk to the nearby preservation area to see tropical birds, Gibbon and wild animals. After breakfast, you'll hop back on your elephant for an hour's ride to a Karen hill tribe village on top of a hill overlooking Karen rice fields. You'll receive an amazing welcoming ceremony from Karen hill tribe people, before returning to the lodge for lunch. This afternoon, your guide will show you how to catch fish the hill tribe way, or hunt for wild edible plants. Learn to cook the Thai way, learning about frangrant Thai herbs, before enjoying your creation for dinner.
Day 4: Hot springs, waterfalls and the highest mountain in Thailand (B/L)
After a great lodge breakfast, head to the Hot Spring in Huay Nam Dung National Park, and have lunch at Local Restaurant. Continue on to Pui National Park to visit the waterfall at the highest mountain in Thailand. Swim in a crystal clear waterfall, then transfer back to the city of roses Chiang Mai or transfer to the airport for your next destination.
